Check the wiring would be my advice.
The wire to the neutral light on my Savage was routed over the braces under the seat but over the frame. The wire eventually was crushed and cut.
A simple splice and it was heh magic presto - I have a neutral light.
If the transmission is acts like neutral is hard to find - check your oil level. On some bikes to much oil prevents the neutral position from being easy to select
The interface on the kickstand will indeed shut the engine off if it is in gear.
Keep the rubber side down
